A Letter from Dr. Miller to his patients

To My Patients:

First, I would like to thank all of you for the confidence you have shown in me over the years.  It has been a privilege and an honor to serve as your physician.  I hope I have been helpful.

I am no longer practicing in Rockwall. This decision was immensely difficult to make, and I apologize for any difficulties it may cause. Arrangements have been made for continuity of care: A physician is available to you in the same office, and our outstanding PA, Brenda Wallace, will still be there, too.

Jenny Frazier and I founded Rockwall Family Medicine with the goal of providing comprehensive, professional care in a personal, unhurried manner.  Over the last few years, insurance companies and Medicare have made significant changes in how they pay family and general practicioners.  Reimbursement per visit has dropped, so there is pressure for doctors to see more patients, more quickly, or risk going out of business.  At the same time, insurance restrictions and documentation requirements have increased, making it more complicated and time-consuming to get our patients the medical care that they need and deserve (and pay for).

These changes have interfered with the original mission of RFM.  Jen and I believe that patient care should be our first priority in all circumstances, with a focus on quality, convenience, and service.  A physician should have the time to listen to their patients and fully address their questions and concerns.  Patients should be able to trust that the recommendations they receive are in their own best interest, and not in the best interest of the doctor's wallet.  In addition, a primary care physician should act as an advocate for their patients: helping each patient safely navigate the frequently troubled waters of our healthcare system.

These conflicts between what I would like to do as a physician and what I am able to do given the present healthcare system have led me to this decision.  Again, I apologize for any difficulties this may cause.

If you have any questions, concerns, or problems (or if you just want to say 'Hello'), please contact me:
